The Budo Standard

Why Yama Arashi Ryu?

We are not a commercial school. Nobody here draws a wage for teaching, every dollar goes back into the mat, and the reason the doors open on a Wednesday night is that somebody once taught us for nothing.

01▤

Pure Lineage Transmission

Direct pedigree passing through Professor Matsuyama, Ueshiba O Sensei, Mifune Sensei, Shihan Goody and Sifu Gene Chen. We preserve uncorrupted kata, bone-deep structural alignment, and realistic combative leverage.

Nobody Here Is Paid

Yama Arashi Ryu is a non-profit. Every dollar that comes in goes straight back into the school — the mat, the space, the equipment. Not one of our black belts takes a wage for teaching. There are no contracts, no sales staff, and nobody here whose livelihood depends on signing you up.

Giri — Why We Teach

Our teachers were handed this art by people who asked nothing for it. Teaching is how that debt is paid: giri, the obligation to pass on what was passed to you. It is why the mat is staffed on a weeknight by attorneys, civil servants, software engineers and craftsmen who did a full day's work first — people who average thirty years in the art, and more than forty-five at the senior grades.

The Classical Arts
